Um. don't know where to start with this post. I already know I'm about to do too much. I'm not here to tell you the history but the history of FUBU is incredible. As Combat Jack (R.I.P) like to say "Do your Googles". What I will do is at least share how LL Cool J got FUBU into the Gap commercial. Cause that, that I will never get sick of hearing.

"In the Spring of '97, a commercial starts to air for the Gap, featuring a new kind of spokesperson for the mall-shopping standard of America: LL Cool J. In the spot, LL sports the Gap neck-to-toe. On his head, however, was a hat by a then little-known streetwear brand called FUBU, which stood for "For Us, By Us," given a shout by LL in the lyrics of his rap during the commercial, with those exact words.

Executives for The Gap were supposedly furious, once they actually realized what had happened. And here's what happened: FUBU's founder, Daymond John—an old friend of LL's from Hollis, Queens—kept pestering LL Cool J to wear his new clothing line, until LL actually did...to a shoot for his big Gap commerical. Orders for the clothing line exploded, and FUBU became the original monolithic rapper-endorsed streetwear brand, with revenues totaling somewhere around the $300 million mark in 1998." - Complex (The 40 Biggest Hip-Hop Moments in Pop Culture History)

For us by us on the low. Talk about the full-time jack move. Then you throw in the "How easy is that". Gap still mad to this day. Took yo commercial.

That's not even what this is even about. I just wanted to show off the stuff I just picked up in their store.  I knew this would toss me right off the track. Cause dammit I have more to say.

Jersey: FUBU

One of the things I loved when growing up was watching the old Negro games. On the tape, I'm not that old. I have this huge love for the design of the uniforms. So much that even in High School when everybody was rolling their baseball pants legs down. I kept mine up. I swear I was Satchel Paige. Now if only I had the skills as him.

The best thing about this jersey is that they use real 1950s-era wool blend baseball cloth. Never wanted to live in the 50's but I can feel like it. Without all the bad stuff, you know.

 Pins: FUBU
I can't stop picking up habits. I don't know where I got this love for collecting things but add pins to the list. Getting ready to add three more to the collection.  It was a must for these to be picked up.

Well, that's my short, long story of what I bought today in the FUBU store.

Vans Custom Culture was created to inspire and empower high school students to embrace their creativity through art and design and to bring attention to diminishing arts education budgets. Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively and should be given the tools to do so.

Custom Culture is a national high school customization competition using blank Vans shoes to be customized around specific themes. Once your school's designs are completed, they go through a judging process to narrow down our top 50 entries. Then, it's up to your school and classmates to garner votes from the public to help us choose our top 5. One school will be chosen as the Grand Prize Winner, receiving $75,000 for their art program!

You know, maybe I was supposed to be an Italian mob women in the mid-80's.Sending out hits and cooking pasta. With all this leopard. Or maybe I was just supposed to be a leopard. I sure run like one. Nah, I'm a tiger if anything. Tiger print just doesn't look as good. Anyways.  This has to be one of my new favorite jackets. In the line of so many. I can't wear this one as much. Since it's, leopard and all.

This just seems right. The perfect fit. I didn't think too much about this one when putting it together. It just clicked.

Ripped jeans, you know how I do it.

At first, I was thinking something black. Let's live a little in this new year. So we going tan. Feels good when pushed up against the jacket with that burned orange.  Wearing the jacket all the way open with the white shirt showing and bouncing off the black pants.

(My last Funko Pop post: My Funko Pop Must Haves For December (& Charlie Brown Tree)

Off the top ropes. Catch this elbow. Now one more for good measure.  Stay down and don't get back up. This funko pop is giving me the heaviest vibes of my childhood. Sitting in the room watching WCW. Playing WCW. It was ever an end to all the fighting and DDT's. So I had to buy this one the minute I saw it. This is just the way we starting this Funko Pop post. Tag team, off the ropes.  I might also pick up WWE 2k18 while I'm at it.

You know, I don't have too many things that I plan to do differently this year but one of them happens to be to create more. I should finish what I create, actually.  I have so many untouched projects. Maybe it's for the best? I don't know. Some do lead to better things. (Shameless plug). Anyways. At the top of my to-do list, buy more vinyl figures. I didn't buy any in 2017 and I feel dirty.

What better time to start then with the new release of the Crayola x Kid Robot foomi. From the Crayola x Kidrobot Collection, the Crayola 4” Foomi is a new take on the classic Foomi DIY platform. The Crayola 4” Foomi comes in a window box with Crayola accents. The Crayola 4” Foomi also comes with 3 Crayola Washable Markers and a coloring book for maximum creativity!

Being the lover of packing design. The main reason I will be getting this one and not the regular is for the package. It's beautiful it's my childhood.  I have to have a couple. I'll let my niece use the washable markers. I'm using paint.

RIght now they have two versions. The Foomi & Bub. Both four inches but unique in shape and both washable (comes with markers) none the less.  I already have a couple of concepts I want to do that involves all three of the styles they carry.

At the price point of just being 9.99. I'm hoping that you all will give one a try. Bring out that artist in you. You don't have to be the best to have some fun. I would think you have picked up on a thing or two from reading my blog. Plus it's washable. You mess up (what you believe to be a mess up) you start again. Have some fun. Get one today.

The year just started and it's already on fire. Not taking too long for Private Label NYC to jump off to the races. Taking to social media to announce the upcoming release of unique sorts. Fanny packs. Now they have been gaining popularity for quite some time now. Seeing more in the past year. Me, I have never been that huge of a fan.  I hate shit around my waist (Hips). Even belts. With that being said, they have flipped it. See below. I would have never in a million years living would have thought this. See that's something I can get behind. Wearing it like a backpack. Looks big enough to fit my camera in. Couple more things too. This would be great for shoot days. Seeing that the Private Label duffle I already have is clutch.

Now it's that time that I hate. Picking a color. I can never pick one and I swear it took me the longest to even pick the duffle. This blue one looks like house money. Matching well with the blue camo that I already have. Have me walking around looking like I'm apart of something. Something cool, something cool. Not gang related at all (Yikes). Plus blue is my favorite color.

BUT that green camo does look pretty nice.

This will be something to think about. The black is still in play too. Loving the details with the red trim. The great thing about this. I have until Friday (1/5/18) to think about this all.

Depending on the price point, I might just get two.

 Tefnut by Javaris Squire (Book)

Shameless Plug
Tefnut tells a story of a young woman coming into her own, in this world. “That’s when he took my heart in his hands. And kissed it gently. He opens up his lips then said this poetry” with Erykah Badu’s discography serving as the narrative. It propels the story to heights never seen before in literature. Never finding dull moments, but enlightenment on every page. Erykah has voiced that she likes seeing interpretations of her music. Here’s one for the book lover and the music enthusiast in you.Javaris Squire tells the story in a way that only he had envisioned it. The story taps into the animalistic way of digesting quickly; while giving the reader enough to satisfy their hunger.

My Voice: A Memoir by Angie Martine (Book)/(Audio)

In her current reign at Power 105.1 and for nearly two decades at New York's Hot 97, Angie Martinez has had one of the highest rated radio shows in the country. After working her way up as an intern, she burst on the scene as a young female jock whose on-air "Battle of the Beats" segment broke records and became a platform for emerging artists like a young Jay Z. Angie quickly became known for intimate, high-profile interviews, mediating feuds between artists, and taking on the most controversial issues in hip-hop. At age 25, at the height of the East Coast/West Coast rap war, Angie was summoned by Tupac Shakur for what would be his last no-holds-barred interview - which has never aired in its entirety and which she's never discussed in detail until now.

Angie shares stories from behind the scenes of her most controversial conversations, from one-time presidential hopeful Barack Obama to superstars like Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown, and describes her emotional, bittersweet final days at Hot 97 and the highly publicized move to Power 105.1. She also opens up about her personal life - from her roots in Washington Heights and her formative years being raised by a single mom in Brooklyn to exploring the lessons that shaped her into the woman she is today.

From the Puerto Rican Day Parade to the White House, Angie is universally recognized as a powerful voice in the Latino and hip-hop communities. My Voice gives an inside look at New York City's one-of-a-kind urban radio culture, the changing faces of hip-hop music, and Angie's rise to become the Voice of New York.

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace (Book)/(Audio)
A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the pursuit of happiness in America. Set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are.

Equal parts philosophical quest and screwball comedy, Infinite Jest bends every rule of fiction without sacrificing for a moment its own entertainment value. It is an exuberant, uniquely American exploration of the passions that make us human - and one of those rare books that renew the idea of what a novel can do.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (Book)/(Audio)
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is if Nick didn't do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?

With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Trilogy/5 Books) by Douglas Adams (Book)/(Audio)

First, a legendary radio series, then a bestselling book, and most recently a blockbuster movie, the immensely successful Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy needs no introduction. Reissued in time for the first novel's thirty-fifth anniversary, this hardback omnibus edition includes all five parts of the trilogy, incorporating for the first time, Mostly Harmless, along with a guide to the guide and essential notes on how to leave the planet, and a range of exclusive extra material.

This single hardcover edition is indispensable for any would-be galactic traveler and for old and new fans of Douglas Adams, Doctor Who, and bestselling science fiction books.

And just like that, we're at nine.  That should be enough for now. I'll be updating during the year and probably even next week knowing me. So check back and follow my Twitter /Instagram to stay in the know.

We also have put together a list for the Misfits Book Club, check that out as well.

Update: 1/16/2018

The Beautiful and Damned, first published by Scribner's in 1922, is F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel. It portrays the Eastern elite during the Jazz Age, exploring New York café society. As in Fitzgerald's other novels, the characters are complex, especially with respect to marriage and intimacy. The book is believed to be largely based on Fitzgerald's relationship with Zelda Fitzgerald. The Beautiful and Damned tells the story of Anthony Patch, a 1910s socialite and presumptive heir to a tycoon's fortune, his relationship with his wife, Gloria, his service in the army, and his alcoholism.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by OscarWilde(Book)/(Audio)

In this celebrated work, his only novel, Wilde forged a devastating portrait of the effects of evil and debauchery on a young aesthete in late-19th-century England. Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world. For over a century, this mesmerizing tale of horror and suspense has enjoyed wide popularity. It ranks as one of Wilde's most important creations and among the classic achievements of its kind.

Updated: 4/20

The Maze Runner (Book/Audio

Outside the towering stone walls that surround them is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.

American Gods: A Novel (Book/Audio)

Shadow spent three years in prison, keeping his head down, doing his time. All he wanted was to get back to the loving arms of his wife and to stay out of trouble for the rest of his life. But days before his scheduled release, he learns that his wife has been killed in an accident, and his world becomes a colder place.

On the plane ride home to the funeral, Shadow meets a grizzled man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A self-styled grifter and rogue, Wednesday offers Shadow a job. And Shadow, a man with nothing to lose, accepts.

But working for the enigmatic Wednesday is not without its price, and Shadow soon learns that his role in Wednesday's schemes will be far more dangerous than he ever could have imagined. Entangled in a world of secrets, he embarks on a wild road trip and encounters, among others, the murderous Czernobog, the impish Mr. Nancy, and the beautiful Easter -- all of whom seem to know more about Shadow than he himself does.

Shadow will learn that the past does not die, that everyone, including his late wife, had secrets, and that the stakes are higher than anyone could have imagined.

All around them a storm of epic proportions threatens to break. Soon Shadow and Wednesday will be swept up into a conflict as old as humanity itself. For beneath the placid surface of everyday life a war is being fought -- and the prize is the very soul of America.

As unsettling as it is exhilarating, American Gods is a dark and kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth and across an America at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. Magnificently told, this work of literary magic will haunt the reader far beyond the final page.

Update 5/23/2018: How y'all doing?

Black Klansman: Race, Hate, and the Undercover Investigation of a Lifetime (Book/Audio)

When detective Ron Stallworth, the first black detective in the history of the Colorado Springs Police Department, comes across a classified ad in the local paper asking for all those interested in joining the Ku Klux Klan to contact a P.O. box, Detective Stallworth does his job and responds with interest, using his real name while posing as a white man. He figures he’ll receive a few brochures in the mail, maybe even a magazine, and learn more about a growing terrorist threat in his community.

A few weeks later the office phone rings, and the caller asks Ron a question he thought he’d never have to answer, “Would you like to join our cause?” This is 1978, and the KKK is on the rise in the United States. Its Grand Wizard, David Duke, has made a name for himself, appearing on talk shows, and major magazine interviews preaching a “kinder” Klan that wants nothing more than to preserve a heritage, and to restore a nation to its former glory.

Ron answers the caller’s question that night with a yes, launching what is surely one of the most audacious, and incredible undercover investigations in history. Ron recruits his partner Chuck to play the "white" Ron Stallworth, while Stallworth himself conducts all subsequent phone conversations. During the months-long investigation, Stallworth sabotages cross burnings, exposes white supremacists in the military, and even befriends David Duke himself.

Black Klansman is an amazing true story that reads like a crime thriller, and a searing portrait of a divided America and the extraordinary heroes who dare to fight back.
