It’s been a long time since any real rebel rocked a Harley Davidson motorcycle but we applaud the fact that this cultural icon is throwing its weight behind a truly cultural event. The Art of Rebellion exhibition features a selection of some of today’s most recognized and respected lowbrow artists in a ‘one night only’ show at Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station Arts Center. Each of the 11 artists has been given the gas tank of a Harley to use as the canvas for an original artwork, which will then sold at the event with a portion of the proceeds going to Art Matters, a foundation supporting groundbreaking artists… Hit the official web site for all the in-depth details.

And the spring/summer collections keep on rolling in. This time, it’s Japanese label FAT, who have balanced contemporary and classic with their newest offering. Using the cornerstones of classic American style – peacoats, hoodies, vests, jean jackets, and smart blazers – they’ve coloured their newest collection with a decidedly modern approach, using bright blues, oranges, and purples. Looking like your dad’s wardrobe modified for ’09, you can check this collection at select retailers or right here.

The next sneaker to get the spotlight from the LV x Kanye project is this hi-top version of a previously seen low-top sneaker. It was said that the low top version of this sneaker got some inspiration by a coat seen in “DUNE”, but these look more like a mash up of the Alien Stomper, Air Yeezy, & Reebok Freestyle Hi. Love em or hate em, Kanye is setting the tone for fashion in 09. Available soon…?

The books come in two versions — the red book with white letters is printed on 700 copies, while only 300 copies of the red book with red letters are available. Happy inauguration day to everyone – especially to our friends in the States, as they have officially gotten themselves a new (and improved) President. And to welcome our the new president, Gama-Go has re-issued their token piece of Obama-gear: the Yeti-bama. Pumping a fist in triumph, the abominable snowman depicted is probably joyfully recounting some of the highlights of inauguration day: the Obama slip-up whilst being sworn in, the rousing speech that followed, and the confusing poem to cap it all off. Available in both yellow and gold, these shirts are available at the Gama-Go webstore.

Although we were starting to think that party pictures were getting played out (it’s difficult to justify rapidly pressing F5 on your laptop desperately looking for your dilated-pupiled visage on sharkvsbear while nursing the hangover shakes) artist Leah Tinari begs to differ. Tinari, who will be featured at NYC gallery Mixed Greens from February 12th ro March 14th, has chosen decidedly celebratory themes for her work. Using some of her personal party pics as the basis for her paintings and drawings, her work demonstrates a certain lifelike-yet-stylized exuberance. If you’re from NYC, don’t miss it!

I can empathize with this sad little fella. I really can. The aptly named Tuf-fluck Crappycat is looking a little down on his luck – perhaps the cold reality of a mangled grill and the last-beer blues is catching up to him. Dragging around a final can of faux-Pabst Blue Ribbon, this figure is equal part tragic and comic. Standing at 9″ tall, the detail on this vinyl figure is excellent; though it’s a shade on the bizarre end, it’s a fine compliment to any designer toy ethusiasts’ collection. Check an interactive video on the Crappycat’s story here, or hit up our friends at DKEToys for more information

In commemoration of their 2 year anniversary, designers Flying Coffin have collaborated with Manik Skateboards and Goods to release an limited-edition interlocking set of skateboard decks. A pastiche of some of the beautiful work that Flying Coffin has done over the years, there is surprising continuity from board to board, showcasing some of the amazing paintings they’ve released. Examining the collage more closely, there’s some truly exceptional work etched into these boards – note the dope Supersonics tribute and the slit wrist pieces. With 50 sets being released in conjunction with a shirt – featuring graphics further etched from the skateboard-collage – you can peep these decks at the Flying Coffin webstore.

Vinyl toy designer Frank Kozik’s newest interpretation of Strangekiss‘ normally-placid Zog is, in one word or less, bloody. Introduced as the ‘evil twin’ of the Zog, the Zog Murder Edition seems more like the demented, gruel-fed sibling that Zogs lock in the attic. This vinyl figure’s seemingly developed some bloodlust and anger management issues: his arms, feet, and jaws are dripping with the blood of his enemies. You can check out the Zog Murder Edition at the Strangekiss webstore, as well as more awesome Kozik designs at DKE Toys.

Consistent in their trend of collaborative excellence, NYC designers Mishka have teamed up with East West to release yet another amazing shirt - and this time, it’s in tribute to party champion, motivational speaker, vocal sleep critic, and debatable man-of-the-century, Andrew WK! Featuring a scrawling of a perturbed Andrew - iconic bloody nose and all - screened on a white shirt, Mishka keep the design light-hearted with the inclusion of bear ears. Don’t sleep on this shirt (or, by Andrew’s personal recommendation, ‘never go to sleep again’); this is an online exclusive, and you can get more information right here.
