Nike's Air Max Furyosa

The Furyosa is close in name to an upcoming Mad Max prequel film dubbed Furiosa, and though this is entirely accidental, the design certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the world of Mad Max. Its most noticeable feature is the double-stacked Air units in the heel, each surrounded by its own shroud of EVA foam. This double-stacked style is not directly connected to the front of the midsole, making for a high-rising look, and it’s supported underfoot by a sustainable Nike Grind midsole as well.

Looking above the midsole, the upper offers a retrofuturistic look of its own with a mix of silver and black materials that range from mesh to leather and synthetics. Wavy mudguards seem to pull inspiration from the Air Max 98, with toe caps calling to mind images of the Air Max 270. There’s also a lacing system that snakes around the top of the mudguard before being tied off at the heel, a purely aesthetic piece as the core lacing system is still at its normal place on the forefoot. Extra heel padding and heel/tonge tabs round off the look.

Expect the Nike Air Max Furyosa to release via Nike SNKRS Japan on June 3, priced at approximately $177 USD. It’s a women’s style, but will be available in an extended size run. A US release is likely to follow as well.
