adidas has opened a pop-up store in the swanky Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea to celebrate the comeback of its classic Superstar sneaker. Built by Urbantainer, the pop-up also serves as an exhibition, and features a ‘Superstar Hall of Fame,’ that showcases the silhouette’s origins and deep heritage within popular culture as one of the most beloved adidas sneakers. The exhibition was curated to present six core themes: ‘hardwood & backboards,’ ‘music & culture connection,’ ‘art in superstar,’ ‘superstar in superstar,’ ‘a collaborative approach,’ and ‘fashion in superstar.’
Materials like metal piping, salvaged wood and steel paneling were used by Urbantainer in building the shop’s foundations, which create a raw yet refined space. An inner court surrounded by diamond mesh wiring resembles a ’70s street basketball court. Spray-painted stencil art and graffiti tags cover the space as well, which evokes the early days of American urban culture. Check out photos of the pop-up store above, and watch the short video below to check out the making of the space.
